Zentangle

My artwork is of an owl leaving a tree branch as night is finally happening and it’s looking to explore the nighttime. The elements of art highly used are lines and a principle used is value. To create my artwork I did some research behind the meaning of a Zentangle and looked at many examples of patterns that could be used in my own interpretation. Developing a stretch of the owl beforehand and experimenting with various patterns with different forms of value really influenced the final product. Brainstorming and discovering the true definition behind a Zentangle really helped with the process of creating something reasonable.
For as long as I could remember I have always been fascinated with owls and their common occurrence at night along with their striking appearance. They can represent wisdom and demonstrate a great deal of mystery in which I find really interesting. My goal was to create a Zentangle that caught people’s attention with its variation in patterns; however, also arise some questions behind its meaning. I wanted to create something dark and calm and I think I did a grand job in achieving my goal. After the completion of this art piece, I learned a  lot about balancing value and the correct way to combine lines and value. The final product is exactly what I wanted but, if I were to go back, I would add more detail to the background that really showcases a nighttime feel. Next time I plan to go through every single possible outcome of the art piece before I finalize.
